The other night I was struggling with feeling ill after starting a new round of antibiotics, since the first round didn’t appear to have any effect. The next round of stronger antibiotics (Augmentin) wreaked havoc on my stomach to the point of constant nausea and other unmentionable side effects keeping me close to home. I was contemplating this as I did this selfie from the reflection in the window as I sat feeling ill in the dining room.
This morning’s sketch of an urban still life had me reflecting on what I was going through when I suddenly had to start taking all kinds of new medications for my heart.
I am in much better shape these days, but one of the things that really helped me to get control of my mental state was creating music with my electric bass.
The Alembic Elan 6 string bass is capable of producing so many sounds and timbres! I composed this piece shortly after my heart surgery using the Elan recorded into my Tascam DP-008 EX eight track recorder.
Creating these pieces was an important part of my lengthy physical and emotional recovery. All parts were performed on the Elan. Since it is an important part of my creative journey, I will include it here. https://soundcloud.com/sean-patrick-kupisz/05-explorations-and-experiments-part-5
