A Warning About Using Blick Illustrator Markers (or My Mistake)

17 February 2018

Hello everybody!

I sketched this duck dish using my Pelikan m200 with Noodler’s Black and watercolors. I decided it would be fun to put the floor background using Blick Illustrator Markers. These markers are alcohol based, and I was sketching in the Stillman & Birn Alpha sketchbook.

Without thinking about it, I went for it. I should have tested how the markers behave on the page. They bled onto the other side ruining my Flashdancers sketch from the other day.

Not the end of the world, but I would love to use those markers. I will have to research and find out which sketchbooks wont let alcohol based markers bleed through.

Thanks for visiting!

See you later!!

  1. Well, that would piss me off also but fortunately I learned that lesson from a sample copic marker that I tested first. I Only use Pitt Brush pens – don’t bleed at all. Anyway, I don’t think that bleed through ruined this drawing. On the contrary, basing my opinion on your photo, I think it has added texture and a bit of pizzazz. Serendipity is your friend a lot of the time.
